Tiny house lovers, meet Tikku. A super sleek, multi-level tiny apartment that currently lives in a bustling Helsinki square, where it only takes up a footprint of 2.5 x 5 meters (roughly 8′ x 16.5′) \u2014 the size of a parking spot.\u00a0The house, designed and installed by\u00a0Marco Casagrande<\/a><\/em>, is described as “a contemporary cave for a modern urban nomad.” Tikku<\/strong>, which means “stick” in Finish, seeks to bring a sense of the organic to city life.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

H<\/span>ow the furniture was arranged for entertaining, for conversation, for “company.” It was once common for friends to drop by, even unannounced, and for you to spread some refreshments around while you sat on couches, facing each other, to shoot the breeze. Nowadays that sounds insane. Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco perfectly and hilariously illustrates the difference between someone dropping by 20 years ago versus now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The house is designed to be mobile, to set down wherever one might place a car. It has three floors: one for sleeping, one for working, and a green-house that are designed to be endlessly adaptable to the owner’s needs<\/em>. There’s a sandbox in the base of the building for balance, so one can simply set the house down wherever there is space, no foundation required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chapo first expressed his interest in furniture design in 1947 when he met a Naval carpenter with a studio.<\/strong> Here he developed woodworking skills and produced his first furniture designs. The following years were further enriched by studies in architecture at Les Beaux-Arts in Paris, during which time he also traveled across Scandinavia and the Americas, bringing back a deeper knowledge and understanding of traditional crafts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A heat sink is a mechanical component that is attached to an electrical component for the sake of transferring heat from the electrical component into the surrounding environment. This environment is most commonly air, but it can also be other fluids, such as water or coolant. Heat sinks are typically made of aluminum or copper and have fins or pins that work to increase the surface area of the component, to expedite the heat transfer to the surrounding fluid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although a meal satisfies your hunger you should have dessert, because the educated palate craves that particular spice as a proper finish. Scientists tell us<\/a> that a dinner digests better because of a tasty dessert, which, they say, gives the final stimulus necessary to dispose of the food previously received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s actually quite a lot of space here, so I think it’s difficult to get everything done. I’m still at it \u2014 there’s a lot of work to be done in the bedrooms. But the biggest challenge is to really curate each area the way you want it because it’s a big space<\/strong>. The stools \u2014 they took a lot of time. I created them for a furniture fair in Milan and the original idea was to create a super light leather piece using carbon fiber and cowhide. I would like to get some original pieces by Donald Judd, either wood furniture, like the super simple geometric pieces, or some original Eames prototypes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The image below demonstrates both a fin (right) and a pin (left) type of heat sink. As we can see, the heat sink has a much greater surface area than the flat component to which it would be attached. The metals of which heat sinks are made also have a much higher coefficient of thermal conductivity than the plastic packaging of typical electrical components. <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
